The Newtown National Nature Reserve is the only National Nature Reserve on the Island. Managed by the National Trust, it offers wild and interesting walks through varied and protected habitats, including a couple of cosy and well-equipped bird hides for spotting local wildlife. Here the coastal path is forced inland because of the creek and the nearby military training area, meaning Newton Harbour is not a good place to explore the coastal path unless you are doing the whole island circuit.
