Cycle the Red Squirrel Trail from Cowes on the Isle of Wight. This well established, easy going, waymarked trail offers 32 miles of traffic-free cycling through the Islands estuaries, woodlands and coastline. From the trail head in Cowes (where there is no parking), follow the riverside gravel and tarmac path that runs the length of the river Medina up to Newport. Here you can either turn back, or explore Newport and Carisbrooke Castle, or continue the trail further on towards Sandown. There is also a lovely detour halfway up the Medina over into Parkhurst Forest.
